Last weekend was filled with delicious food and wine. The night after I had RSVP Private Chef visit my apartment, I attended Wine Riot. I went to this Second Glass event last year and loved the concept. Like most people, I really enjoy having a glass of wine (or two), especially paired with a meal. But I’m not a wine expert. I occasionally have a tough time choosing a bottle of wine or using the right terms to explain why I like a certain type. Second Glass knows these challenges aren’t uncommon, so they created Wine Riot: “a fun, non-intimidating place where people could learn about wine.”

While Wine Riot has already taken place in Boston, Chicago, San Francisco, and New York City this year, those in D.C., Los Angeles, and (again) Boston can still purchase tickets for upcoming events. For $60, you get unlimited access to over 250 wines for four hours. On your way in, they hand you a GoVino glass, which is recyclable, stemless, shatterproof, and made of plastic. It’s yours to take home! The wineries in attendance are divided into regions of the world, so you can travel from Napa Valley to South Africa just by crossing the room. Want to remember your favorite wineries? They have an app for that. Want to learn more about what goes into producing the wines you’re tasting? They offer 20-minute Crash Courses from industry experts.
As if a bottomless wine glass wasn’t enough, Second Glass also offers a few other ways to pass the time. First, I suggest trying some of the local food vendors that are on site. You’ll need to eat while you’re sampling vino, trust me. Aside from grabbing a bite to eat, you can apply some pretty badass temporary tattoos, get silly at the photobooth, or maybe dance around to the live DJ.
One of my favorite wineries was Zipz Wine, which uses innovative packaging for drinking wine on the go. The single-serving, sealed containers are perfect for taking wine to an outdoor event. They offer Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Grigio, and Merlot. After stopping at the Zipz booth with my friend Brian (that’s him above, too) to take a picture and post it to Twitter, I won a four pack of Zipz! Look for their team at future Wine Riots.
NOTE: Second Glass provided me with tickets to Wine Riot, but I was in no way compensated to review it on my blog. These are honest opinions.
