One topic I never thought I’d be writing a blog post about is underwear. We all wear it, of course, but for the sake of keeping my blog content relatively PG, I didn’t expect undies to show up on my content calendar. That is, until Dear Kate sent me a pair of their new Hazel Sport undies to test drive on a run. I first heard about Dear Kate when my friend, EMpowered Founder Emily Cook Harris, modeled for a Hazel Sport Lookbook in the fall. Then, fellow fitness blogger Michelle Roos shot a promotional video for the brand in which she’s skydiving in Dear Kate undies. You’re probably wondering why all these active women are turning to Dear Kate to add to their fitness wardrobes. It’s all in the soon-to-be-patented technology:
The team at Dear Kate sent me the Hazel Sport Thong, which arrived in an envelope that looked like it contained top secret information. Well, undies should be kept under wraps. I chose this style because I don’t like to have VPLs (visible panty lines) under all the spandex I wear when I work out. The undies feel almost like they’re made of the same material as the rest of my fitness wardrobe–thick, stretchy, and wicking. I was especially impressed by the thickness. Typically, after a hard workout, every inch of fabric I’m wearing feels soaked with sweat. Gross, I know. But as a fitness fanatic, you quickly learn that sweat means progress. It’s not particularly comfortable to wear those sweaty clothes home on the subway after a class. I crossed my fingers that Dear Kates would make my gear more comfortable post-workout.
Last night, I completed my last training run in New York before heading to DC and wore my new undies. Before I even started to run, I appreciated that the waistband didn’t dig into my skin. While on my run, I didn’t even feel the undies, which is a good thing. As a runner, it feels great when no piece of your gear is rubbing or sliding around. At the end of my run, I honestly did feel less soaked in sweat. I felt fresher on my subway ride home, if you know what I mean. While Dear Kates might be on the expensive side for someone who isn’t serious about fitness, I think fitness enthusiasts of all kinds would benefit from owning a pair or two. Everyone deserves to feel comfortable while working their booty off. The Hazel Sport Spring 2014 Lookbook is gorgeous. Check out these Wonder Women showing off their Dear Kates.
