Over the past few weeks, I’ve been testing two products from two new-to-me brands. While I’ve been running for almost a year, I still consider myself a newbie and am always looking for products that will help me improve or make training more fun. If you’ve tried a great new product recently, please recommend it in a comment! And be sure to keep reading for a giveaway of one of my new favorites.
First, is ENERGYbits, a Boston-based brand that delivers energy in an easy and natural form to athletes. I’m a #RunChat regular on Sunday nights and have listened (watched?) people rave about this product every week. ENERGYbits are only made from 100% organicallly grown, non-GMO spirulina algae and loaded with 40 nutrients. These tabs each have the highest concentration of protein in the world (64%) for just one calorie per tab. Aside from energy, ENERGYbits offer increased endurance and mental alertness. They can even decrease hunger and caffeine cravings.
I was initially hesitant about trying ENERGYbits because you have to swallow 30 tabs before a run to see the effect. They taste too green to chew. I was one of those late bloomers when it comes to swallowing medications, so I knew I’d have to swallow them in groups of 5-6. Fifteen minutes before my 11-mile run last week, I took 30 and ate a light breakfast. I was pleased to find that ENERGYbits don’t give you a buzzed feeling. They kept my natural energy up throughout my run. Rather than eating something halfway through, I took 15 more bits and wasn’t hungry. In the future, I should drink more water with them to really get them to settle in my stomach, though they didn’t upset my stomach. I’m looking forward to testing them again soon. I’ve also been testing a product that I’ve been wanting for months–wireless bluetooth earbuds. It’s annoying to have your earbud cords flying around during a run, ultimately pulling the ear pieces out. I figured wireless earbuds would eliminate the problem and asked #RunChat friends for suggestions. That’s how I found Noizy Brands. They kindly sent me a pair of their wireless earbuds to put to the training test. The earbuds have a built-in microphone, 33-foot range, auto shut-off feature, and battery life of 4.5 hours.
It took some practice to put my Noizy Brands on and get them to stay put. Thankfully, they come with ear pieces of different sizes and clip-on plastic loops to fit around your ears. Once I figured out what worked for my ears, I was set. I put my iPhone into my armband and could still adjust the volume from the microphone on the cord. The microphone piece also allows you to skip songs by holding the (+/-) buttons. These earbuds successfully eliminate the flying cord problem and offer clear, loud sound. Technology for the win.
