I mentioned in a recent post that I’m excited to be crushing one of my biggest fitness goals ever on January 11–less than two weeks into 2015. I’ve seen a few health and wellness brands call December “the new January,” but I’ve been training to run this marathon for months. While I didn’t know it at the time, my training started in late July. When I registered for Walt Disney World after my half marathon in October, I was already halfway to my goal. Running 26.2 miles for the first time will only begin a year of racing for me. I plan to run at least two half marathons and another full marathon in 2015. I’ll likely be adding a few more half marathons to the schedule. Thirteen months ago, I didn’t consider myself a runner. I’ve learned not to define myself using the word “not.”

It’s no secret that I’m a sucker for fitness gadgets. This bright green TomTom Runner Cardio has become my new training buddy. I used to carry my iPhone in my hand to use a tracking app on every single run. The Runner Cardio has given me more freedom of movement, and it tracks much more than an app can. Aside from tracking metrics like calories burned, distance, pace, and time, the Runner Cardio also offers an accurate heart rate monitor directly on your wrist. The watch includes programming for heart rate zones, interval training, and racing yourself that can be used for running, biking, swimming, and other sports. It uses vibration notifications and syncs with a mobile app. You know it’s a great watch when a fitness magazine is saying, “This is the best damn fitness watch. Ever.” It’s bright. It’s comfortable. And it’s going to help me crush my race calendar in 2015.

      Oh, and my fitness goal is to run my 2nd 1/2 marathon–the Key West half!!!!–in January. I also hope to get into the Philly Broad Street 10 miler this spring!

    In 2015 I’m looking to run a race every month to help me stay consistent with my training which will lead to my ultimate goal of running a half marathon in under 2 hours.

    Running my first marathon in May! That’s my big goal. Then I’m hoping to crush a half marathon PR at a race I do every August. And who knows what next fall will bring. We’ll see.

    I reached so many of my big fitness goals this year (set new PRs for 10K and half marathon and finished my first marathon – whoo!) so I’m excited to make even more progress in 2015. Right now I’m focusing on eating cleaner to drop some of the extra lbs I’ve been carrying on my runs so that I can get another new half marathon PR in the spring and a new 5K PR in 2015!

    TOTALLY entering this! I am frustrated that my Garmin doesn’t have an accelorameter (is that how you spell it) so I can’t use it on the treadmill, so this is AWESOME! Would love to try this out!

    I guess it’s time to really think about my fitness goals for the new year! Currently my main one is to get my CrossFit Level 1 certification in the spring. I’ve got certain milestones I’d like to hit, like a 300 pound back squat and a 135 pound overhead press. Running…. maybe it’s time to just sign up for a 10K and train for it, see if I can do that. This TomTom would definitely help with that… anyone that knows me knows I’m a numbers guy! =)

    Ever since high school basketball where I was forced to run and always the slowest, I’ve “hated” running. Now 26, I have just recently gotten into fitness and getting into shape. I started using the “couch to 5k” app after seeing lots of friends running 5ks and half marathons. As of now, it seems close to impossible. I’ve started following your blog, among others, and following lots of runners on Instagram. It’s amazing motivation, and I am on the lookout for local 5ks/half marathons in NJ or even NY so that I can sign up and crush amazing goals like you have. My fitness goal for 2015 is to sign up and successfully run in a half marathon. Thanks for inspiring!

    I am running the Vancouver Marathon in May 2015 and I want to run sub-4:00 SO MUCH. My first marathon (California International Marathon, Dec 2013) was 4:20:25 for a few reasons…it gave me a reason to keep going!

    It’s so crazy that you and I pretty much had the same ‘running’ journey. I decided to be a runner just last year and I am mind boggled that I have already done two half marathons with races here and there and most of all, actually enjoy and want to run!

    My biggest fitness goal really this coming year is to be consistent with strength training. Like many women, I used to think weights were really for men, but the results! Besides the results, at the end of the day it really is “Strong is the new skinny.”
