Race week is finally here. I leave for Orlando on Friday morning. I run the Walt Disney World Marathon on Sunday morning. Some of my friends have said, “I can’t believe it’s already here!” That makes me laugh. Training for a marathon is a long, life-changing journey. I’m proud that I haven’t skipped any long runs. I’ve put everything I can into this experience, and I’m ready to get out there and do it. In all honesty, I’m also ready to have my life back.
I’ve been in full taper mode for the last week–shorter runs and lots of yoga. I also got a sports massage at Body Mechanics last Tuesday. It was magical. I plan to do a full review of the massage after my post-marathon appointment, but I can already recommend Body Mechanics for any serious athlete. Looking back, I wish I had gotten a massage every 2-3 weeks during training. I feel like I have my range of motion back. My pace has gotten faster with the same level of effort. Training is all coming together as it should. I feel so fortunate that I wasn’t injured over the last few months.
This week will be spent making check lists (like this one) and itineraries, so I can relax and enjoy once I get on the plane. Friday will be spent at the expo. Saturday will be all about rest. Sunday is the race, followed by the Magic Kingdom. Monday will be Epcot. I’ll be publishing regular posts through Friday and will share all of my trip details next week. Until then, follow along on Instagram and Twitter!
