New Skincare Finds: Coconut Oil + Complexion Rescue

Coconut Oil + Bare Escentuals Complexion Rescue

In the past, I’ve shared that I’m simple and brand loyal when it comes to beauty. If it works, I keep buying it. I’m also blessed with clear skin that’s only slightly sensitive to fragrances. Still, I notice products that bloggers and other publications share. I recently heard rave reviews of two products (one basic, one brand new) from multiple people and thought I’d give them a try. It’s been perfect timing because the frigid temperatures in New York were starting to dry out my skin. Quick Note: I was not asked to review either of these products. They’re new favorites!

COCONUT OIL — This product is clearly not new, but it’s new to me. When I was in Montauk, the other bloggers on the trip could not stop talking about coconut oil. I had heard that it could be used for everything from oil pulling to strengthening your hair but wasn’t aware that you could also clean your face with it. As soon as I got home, I ordered Viva Labs Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil and have been using it for over a week now. Before bed, I let about a teaspoon of oil melt in my hands and rub it in circles on my face. Next, I use a warm washcloth to wipe away the oil, along with dirt and makeup. Instead of wearing makeup while I hibernated over the long weekend, I left a bit of the oil on my face to moisturize. Coconut oil has antibacterial properties, antioxidants, and the ability to slow down oil production. Have you tried it?

COMPLEXION RESCUE — After seeing a few style bloggers review Bare Escentuals Complexion Rescue, I had to give it a try. I’ve been using the Bare Minerals products for years and was curious about this tinted hydrating gel cream that can be worn alone or under the mineral foundation. On Valentine’s Day, I treated myself to a trip to the Bare Minerals store in Soho and bought this product (in Vanilla) and its brush. A makeup artist at the store showed me how to apply a small amount to the brush and swirl it onto my skin. It’s very light and leaves your skin looking dewy. It also offers SPF 30, which is especially important for my fair skin. The Bare Minerals team claims that this product increases skin’s hydration by 215% in one week.
