While I planned on writing a full recap post about my trip to Denver, I ended up not taking very many pictures while I was there. I decided to stay off my phone and enjoy the views and company of my friends. Denver has been having uncharacteristically warm weather this winter, but I must have brought New York weather with me. It was cold and snowing all weekend. Sigh. We were still able to visit Boulder, Red Rocks, and a Stranahan’s Distillery tour. I’m officially jealous of all the opportunity for outdoor adventure in Colorado–hiking, skiing, trail running, etc. I hope to visit again in the summer, either for FitBloggin or otherwise. Will any of you be there?
I’m officially starting to train for the Pittsburgh Half Marathon this week. This race will be special for a few reasons. First, Pittsburgh is my hometown. Over the past few years, I’ve seen pictures of high school friends with their medals and promised myself I’d make it back home to run with them in 2015. I’m also thrilled that my mom will be running her first half marathon with me! She worked her way up to consistently running 5-6 miles before starting her training program. Another reason I’m excited for the race? Mom and I will both be training with Jess! I bought Mom a 10-week package, so she could train with Jess the entire time. I bought myself a 6-week PR package. I’ll train on my own for the first month, then Jess will push me to a personal best from late March until race day on May 3.
It feels good to be entering a training cycle for a half marathon, rather than a full marathon. I am so glad that I ran my first 26.2 last month, but training for a full marathon requires significantly changing your lifestyle. It will be nice to have a goal to work toward without having to dedicate as much time to my training. I’ll be sharing updates on my progress every other Monday in Half Marathon Monday posts. I also hope to have Mom write a guest post about her training over the next few months!
