I’ve worked out in a museum, at a fashion show, and in the middle of a street. I can now say I’ve also practiced yoga inside a black-lit bubble with headphones on. Last weekend, Sound Off invited Sam and me to take a yoga class at South Street Seaport inside of SUGARCUBE. Sound Off hosts unforgettable experiences using wireless headphone technology, which lets guests tune in to up to three channels of audio from DJs, event leaders, and multimedia presentations. In this case, a live DJ mixed popular songs with soothing sounds while we flowed. It was awesome.
When Sam and I arrived, we stashed our bags and were handed a set of headphones. We rolled out our mats in the center of the pack and stretched while we waited to begin. I had no idea what to expect. I thought the headphones might slip off or be distracting during the practice. Instead, they canceled out the Saturday-night noise outside SUGARCUBE and allowed the group to zone in. The practice was very accessible to all levels. I completed the movements at an intermediate pace, while Sam took it to the next level. Have you checked out our Instagrams here, here, and here? One of my favorite parts was taking savasana to a violin version of Take Me to Church mixed with rain sounds.
The Sound Off yoga classes were so popular, that they’re adding another session this Sunday at 6pm. You can register here. Can’t make it? You can follow along with your own headphones and DJ Panic’s recording of my class at home. Wearing neon might also help you get in the groove.
