After four half marathons, one full marathon, one 5K, one 15K, and one Ragnar Relay, my 2015 races are complete. If you haven’t read my Rock ‘n’ Roll Las Vegas recap, you can catch up on that here. In December, I also plan to reflect on my race performances this year and to set goals for 2016. For now, I’m focusing on strength training, yoga classes, and easy miles in beautiful Central Park. Right before the NYC Marathon, the leaves changed colors and have held on for a few weeks because of the unusually warm weather. This week, it’s much cooler in the mornings and evenings, so I’ve been wearing sleeves and pants to train outdoors. It’s perfect timing to partner with PUMA to #IGNITENYC and stay energized as winter approaches.
PUMA’s #IGNITEYOURCITY Challenge encourages runners to post training photos online and tag their city. A map is tracking which city is most energized. PUMA asked me to trial the PWRWARM running shoes and join the challenge to motivate New York City runners. NYC is currently behind Dubai and Singapore, so start using the #IGNITENYC hashtag!
The gear that PUMA sent to outfit me during the challenge is great for cold mornings and dark evenings. According to the website, “The IGNITE PWRWARM is packed with cold-friendly technology – everything from strategically placed adaptive materials that keep your body at an optimum temperature in the coldest of climates, to NightCat reflective materials that give you high visibility on those dark evening runs. So you can train harder, faster, and longer…whatever the conditions.” I’ve never owned a pair of running shoes specifically designed for cold weather, but I’ll sure get a lot of use out of them. I can only hope that snow holds off until January. I’m linking the rest of my gear below. My two favorite pieces are the PWRWARM NightCat Quarter-Zip, which has reflective patterns on the sleeves, and the All Eyes On Me 3/4 Tights. The crops come in bright jewel tones and offer a perfect amount of compression.

While I’ve loved racing in so many locations around the country this year, training in Central Park and around NYC is my home base. It’s crazy how well runners learn their routes, down to the elevation of the streets. The iconic skyline and people watching are perks, as well. Tonight, I’ll be heading to visit my parents in Charlotte for Thanksgiving, which will give me extra training time to test out the PUMATRAC app on a run with my mom. Fun Fact: Mom and I now have half marathon PRs within one minute of each other! Let me know if you’ve tried the app yourself. Travel safely if you’re visiting family and friends. I’m wishing you all a happy (and healthy) Thanksgiving!
