On Wednesday night, I arrived in Los Angeles to attend BlogFest at IDEA World with Propel. I landed around 10pm and headed downtown, where the ESPYs were wrapping up. I went straight to bed after checking in at the hotel, as we had an early wakeup call yesterday. At 5:30am, the Propel blogger crew headed to Santa Monica to meet Gunnar Peterson for a workout.
Gunnar trains professional athletes–think NBA, NHL, NFL, MLB, NCAA, etc. Still, he’s known for functional training techniques that work for professionals and non-professionals alike. I felt reassured by that, as we pulled up to a parking lot near Santa Monica Pier. Gunnar had various attachments, including battle ropes and resistance bands, attached to his Hummer. Around the car, he set up agility ladders, kettlebells, dumbbells, etc. Gunnar and his assistant trainers helped us work through two rounds of about seven different stations.
This was my favorite station. We looped a heavy resistance band around our waist and had to run forward to reach a series of cones. The goal was to meet the cone, then backpedal to the start.
Gunnar and his team were very approachable. While each blogger specialized in a different sport–yoga, hiking, running–Gunnar explained the functional benefits of each exercise.
After the workout, we got to climb the Hummer and take some photos. Follow along with my fellow Propel bloggers on Instagram – Whitney / Aly / Gwen / Rachael / Melanie. And check back in a few weeks to see photos from Propel’s New York City Co:Labs!
